Rick Lorio

Rick brings over 30 years’ experience and has a successful track record of creating equity value in upstream and mid-stream energy projects through origination, development and operations.

A petroleum engineer by background, Rick has worked across the energy value chain and multiple continents – his international experience includes North America (1983 to 1996), Europe (1996 to 2011) and Africa (2011 to present). He founded Energy Investment Company BV in 2007 as a vehicle through which to lead various development and advisory mandates (including the development of a nine cavern natural gas storage project in Epe, Germany, and an advisory role with Kinross, evaluating, and developing solutions in respect of, the company’s power requirements in Mauritania and Ghana). Rick also served as CEO and Chairman of Continental Gas Storage BV from 2007 – 2011, and as Chairman until the sale of the company’s storage assets to Haddington Ventures in 2012.

Previously, Rick has served as Director of Origination for NUON, where he initiated the acquisition of $1 billion / 3,500MW of thermal power from Reliant Energy and initiated, led, and developed two natural gas storage projects totalling €350 million. Prior to Nuon, he was MD of El Paso Europe, responsible for LNG and structured energy transactions.

Rick has a BSc in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University. He divides his time between the United States, the Netherlands and West Africa.

Peter Moss

Peter has broad experience of the energy and mining sectors, having sat on the boards of various publically listed companies. He currently advises EIC in relation to the sourcing and negotiation of debt and equity investments for projects in Africa.

He was previously Non-Executive Chairman of Tengri Resources, an AIM-Listed mining company with gold and copper assets in Kyrgyzstan, and served as an independent director of the Revelation Special Situations Fund Ltd., a Bermuda-based investment manager from 2004-2015.

Peter has served as member of the Advisory Committee of Max Petroleum PLC, an AIM-listed oil and gas E&P firm with interests in Kazakhstan. From 2006-2011 he was Max Petroleum’s Senior VP for Corporate Development and was instrumental in forming an investor group which provided the capital for the company’s IPO on AIM in 2005 and subsequent capital raisings. Peter is a former CEO of AIM-listed Zoltav Resources and a former Director of NYSE-Listed Evergreen Energy Inc. From 2004-2011, he was a Non-Executive Director of AIM-listed Crosby Asset Management Ltd.

Peter has held senior positions with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette, Commerzbank and GFI Group Inc., with an emphasis in sales of risk and capital structure arbitrage to hedge funds. In 2000, he was honoured as a “Founding Father” of Albourne Village, the alternative investment online community.

Peter studied Geology and Economics at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Juli Oliver

Juli is an experienced energy professional with a background in logistics, operations and business development in West Africa. She spent over 10 years working in Nigeria as a Senior General Manager responsible for structuring international partnerships between local companies and major international players for offshore projects and drilling operations, as well as for the construction and operation of large onshore gas facilities.

Juli holds a Master’s degree from King’s College London and is currently based in the US.

Martin Bruins

Martin is an oil and gas professional with more than 32 years’ experience across the upstream industry. Until November 2014, he was Head of Business Development, Floating Production at Petrofac Integrated Energy Services, having previously served as Manager, Upstream Development / BD Manager for Africa at Bluewater Energy Services, a company involved in the design, construction and leasing of FPSOs and SPM Systems.

Martin has been involved in a wide range of upstream projects including field developments, floating production systems, marine terminals, offshore pipelines, production engineering and operations, reservoir engineering, drilling and completions and offshore facilities projects.

He has held engineering and senior management roles across multiple disciplines and has led projects in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Martin holds an MSc in Coastal Engineering from TU Delft, Netherlands. He is based in the Netherlands.

Robert de Kler

Robert brings more than 20 years’ experience of developing power generation assets, both conventional and renewable. He is currently involved in several large scale innovative demonstration projects in Europe for the energy intensive industry, and has extensive experience in the fields of clean coal conversion and combustion, carbon capture and storage (CCS), coal and oil gasification, and synthesis gas treatment.

Robert has significant experience in technology development, portfolio optimisation, technical innovation management, process improvement and project development (incl. project management, permitting, stakeholder communications, tendering and negotiations).

Robert has previously worked for CBI Lummus as lead process engineer responsible for the process design of petrochemical installations, as well as the Dutch utility, Nuon, overseeing the entire technical scope of European project development for renewable and conventional assets, totalling approximately 4,000 MW. He led the development of Nuon’s 1,300 MW coal gasification plant in Eemshaven, Netherlands and has also led several FP7 EU research programs as work package leader.

Robert holds a Master’s degree in energy systems from TU-Delft, Netherlands. He is based in the Netherlands.

Alexa Plant

Alexa has wide-ranging experience in project development and project management roles in the energy and mining sectors across Europe and Africa. She started her career in London in business development roles, developing pricing models, feasibility studies and tender proposals for new projects globally, before moving to project management roles in the UK and West Africa.

Alexa has overseen the installation of in excess of 48 MW of HFO capacity in the UK and Mauritania, including the management of procurement, logistics, government relations, contracting and personnel. She has also previously worked as special projects manager, overseeing the establishment and development of a large iron ore mine in West Africa.

She holds a degree from UCL and is a Prince2 certified project manager. Alexa is currently based in West Africa and serves as EIC’s locally based consultant in relation to a proposed gas-to-power project in Mauritania.

Laurence Liascos

Laurence is an experienced project manager and owner’s representative, with a focus on power generation projects. He is well versed in design build, construction and construction management on projects in the US and Africa, including utility scale renewables projects.

He has an empirically generated understanding of structural engineering, electrical systems design and installation and most phases of commercial and light industrial construction, with an emphasis on structural concrete construction to include low-rise tilt-up construction up to 250,000 sq ft. and re-enforced masonry/steel structures up to 20,000 sq ft.

Laurence has acted as owner’s representative on various projects undertaken by EIC, including a 30 MW coal gasification project in Africa, overseeing quality control, engineering evaluation of built systems and analysis of constructed systems for third party engineering review.

Doug Field

Douglas (Doug) is a highly respected oil and gas professional with extensive experience of upstream operations across Africa and the Middle East. In addition to advising EIC, he also acts as engineering consultant to Range Resources Limited and Chief Technical Officer of Midway Resources International Limited.

Doug has over 30 years’ experience as a petroleum and reservoir engineer. From 2003 to 2007, he was Group Engineering Manager for Tullow Oil, where he was responsible for Tullow’s petroleum, reservoir, well services, production and facilities engineers, and from 2007 to 2012 he served as Business Unit Manager for Tullow’s activities in North and North West Africa.

Doug has previously held technical leadership positions with LASMO Grand Maghreb Ltd, Monument Oil and Gas plc, Centrica plc and BHP Petroleum Ltd. His experience includes running field and production operations in onshore Libya, Iran, Algeria, Angola and the North Sea.

Doug holds a BSc (Hons) in engineering and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Leeds. He is based in the UK.

Chris King

Chris is a project developer, with a specific interest in upstream and downstream projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Until November 2014, he was Business Development Director (sub-Saharan Africa) for Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), responsible for developing and implementing TAQA’s sub-Saharan power and water business development strategy. During his time with TAQA, Chris co-managed the expansion of the Takoradi T2 Power Plant, and led the early-stage development of various other IPP projects in West Africa.

Chris is a qualified energy and projects lawyer and has over 12 years of experience advising on large scale energy transactions/projects across Africa, Middle East and Europe, ranging from commercial negotiation of acquisitions and disposals, to green-field project development of LNG and petrochemical projects. He has demonstrable (14+ years) experience of living and working in Africa.

Chris holds a degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a post-graduate degree in law from York and is a practising solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. He splits his time between Abidjan, London and Dubai.
